Guatape and the Peñol
Guatapé is one of the most colorful towns in Colombia, a small town that mixes its peasant tradition with indigenous history and Antioquia culture, and reflects it in the form of colorful sockets and streets full of life.
Guatapé is a municipality in Colombia, located in the East of the department of Antioquia, 2 hours from Medellín. A world famous destination for being one of the most colorful villages and for being home to the Piedra del Peñol. The sockets of Guatapé are those small works of art that appear in the lower part of the houses, which in principle served to protect the facades from the voracity of the hens and the humidity. While Piedra del Peñol, it is undoubtedly one of the best viewpoints in Colombia and the world.
Join us to visit the great Piedra del Peñol, located 70 kilometers from Medellín and with a large internal staircase that has 740 steps, the Piedra del Peñol is the site most visited by the Antioqueños. It offers tourists a beautiful view over the Guatapé dam, an ideal place for lovers of water sports. The dam, created by the Public Companies of Medellín, flooded part of the municipality, in addition to some surrounding villages, forcing its inhabitants to change the base of their economy, agriculture, for a new one, fishing.
